Admissions
We just celebrated our 90th Anniversary!
The Swedish Institute was founded in 1916, and has
maintained its commitment to natural approaches to health
care ever since. Our school has the oldest, continuously
operating massage therapy program in the country.
Our Massage Therapy Program leads to an Associate in
Occupational Studies degree. We offer classes during
morning, afternoon or evening hours. Full-time students
attend five classes per week, each class lasting four hours,
for a total of 20 hours a week. A part-time option is also
available. See Schedule for details.
Applications
The Massage Therapy Program enrolls students three times
a year, in January, April/May and September. Prospective
students can download an application, request one via
e-mail or phone an Admissions Representative. Details
about requirements and the application process can be
found in our current catalog. Most of our students
are eligible for some kind of financial aid. See if
you have all of the necessary documents by consulting the Application
Checklist.
Curriculum
Our program provides a strong foundation in the study of
the body, revealed through anatomy, physiology and energetic
principles. Students practice Western and Eastern massage
techniques and practice them in clinics and off-site
internships. Get a sense of what you will study by taking a
look at our Academic Program. Details on the
curriculum can be found in our catalog.
Completing the Program
Full-time students complete the Massage Therapy Program
in 16 months. Graduates are prepared to take the exam for a NY
State license in massage therapy and the National
Certification Examination (NCE) offered by the National
Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
Alumni work in a variety of settings, including in private
practice, in medical facilities, spas, fitness centers and
corporate settings. Read about some of our Graduates
Making a Life.
