Admissions Requirements

The Massage Therapy Program welcomes a diverse population of students from all economic, cultural and geographical backgrounds. We seek students who have the potential for working with people in a compassionate manner, who share a desire to use all facets of themselves as they work, who want to gain a better understanding of themselves through the study of the body and are willing to use their knowledge and skills to promote well-being and natural healing.

 

Requirements and Qualifications for Admission

All applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or 24 college credits that meet the preliminary education requirements, as outlined in section 3.47 (a) of the Rules of the New York State Board of Regents.

  • Be a U.S. citizen, alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the U.S., or be eligible for a student visa.

  • Provide evidence of English proficiency if English is not their first language (See “Internationally Educated Applicants,” on page 7 of the Massage Therapy Program catalog for details.)

Applicants are also evaluated by the Admissions Department based on demonstration of the following criteria:

  • The potential for academic success.

  • Physical health, which must include the ability to perform and receive therapeutic massage on a regular basis.

  • Effective and professional communication skills.

  • Maturity, self-awareness, integrity, good judgment and professionalism.

When evaluating applicants, we will consider high school and/or college records, evaluations, admissions essay and answers to six questions, entrance exam results, the applicant's ability to meet our program standards and the personal interview, where granted. (Program standards are detailed on the "Application for Admission").
